What is The messenger of the gods to do

when no one is listening anymore…

Screw around for the rest of eternity, that’s what! At least, that’s what Hermes thought the rest of his immortality would be in the modern world. That is, until his beloved sister Persephone, Goddess of Spring, is kidnapped for a second time (so annoying when that happens), threatening to plunge earth into Eternal Winter.

Now Hermes has to do the thing he’s dreaded most… Grow the hell up. So, can Hermes man-up and return to hell? Can the Greek God of Messengers, Tricksters, Thieves, and Herds (WTF that’s random), bastard child of Zeus with luscious locks of blond hair all the nymphs love to twirl… Can that god rescue Persephone and save the world?

Hermes is about to find out.

Subliminal Message Alert: BUY IT!!!!!!

"I loved Andrew Rubin's witty, imaginative, thrillingly inventive comic novel, a panoramic joyride through the religious omniverse. Read it or be cursed by every kind of God."

- Simon Rich, bestselling author of Glory Days, New Teeth, and creator of the hit TV show Miracle Workers

what people are saying behind my back!

“Richly-imagined, and highly (highly!) irreverent, Rubin’s action-packed take on gods’ searching for meaning in the modern era is as much an exploration of faith as it is a coming-of-age story that wears its heart on its filthy winged Converse.”

- Christina Hammonds Reed, NYTimes bestselling author of The Black Kids.

“A thought provoking debut that balances belly laughs with heart.”

- Quetzalcóatl

“This book is fire! and i know fire!”

- Prometheus

HELL OR HIGH WINTER is a crazy delight of a book, a rollicking comedic and thrilling fantasy with gods and goddesses and regular people tied together in a kind of Rube Goldberg adventure, told at rocket speed by a very, very clever writer.  A terrifically funny romp, and if escapism is what you need, jump into this book now.”

- Bonnie MacBird, author of The Sherlock Holmes Adventure Series for HarperCollins

I absolutely LOVED this book.  It was new, refreshing, and creative.  It inspires the will of achieving greatness not for personal gain, but for the betterment of the world and those we love.”

- Claressa Hallman, Bookstagrammer

“The best written book by a human— while humans still write books!”

- ChatGPT

“finally something that isn’t marvel.”

- Thor

Andrew rubin

Andrew Rubin graduated from NYU’s Tisch School for the Arts where he studied Film Production and History. Like a Lemming over a cliff, Andrew graduated at the height of the Great Recession. Over the past decade, he has toiled in the trenches of Hollywood development, gaining a WGA card along the way, and walking the picket lines to unemployment.

HELL OR HIGH WINTER is the culmination of a ten-year odyssey before Andrew sighted land and found a welcome home with Rare Bird Books. Now this irreverent, action-adventure, mythological romp is available to readers everywhere!

Described as a Renaissance Man by no one, Andrew also co-directed the feature documentary, “Ride with Larry,” about the inspirational journey of Parkinson’s advocate, Larry Smith. “Ride with Larry” garnered international attention, including a BBC special, for its examination of medical marijuana and Parkinson’s. The segment on medical marijuana has since been viewed over half a billion times. Little known fact, the man in the viral video sharing medical marijuana was actually Andrew’s father, affectionately known as Mary Jane’s Apostle.

Yes, Andrew’s father helped normalize pot. You’re welcome.

To this day, Andrew’s father remains the only Jew known to smoke pot in the Vatican. Second fun fact of the day.

Most proudly – and randomly – Andrew is president and co-founder of Symptom Media, an online mental health education and resource library, currently used in over 500 universities, hospitals and institutions around the world (including Stanford, Yale, Johns Hopkins, NYU, UNC Chapel Hill and more). Check it out! You might learn something too!

When not doing the writing and work stuff, Andrew does other stuff, like injuring himself running, or injuring himself playing pickleball, or injuring himself playing with his dog, or injuring himself gardening (how?!). He splits his time injuring himself between San Diego and Los Angeles.

This is a photo of Andrew in Athens, Greece. It may also be spotted on his dust jacket and his dating profile.
